So my peanut allergic son is 4 and in sunday school. In my day, sunday school was a bible lesson, a few songs and thats it, maybe an hour's worth of time. These days kids need variety (so I am told, I am also the 5th & 6th grade sunday school teacher). Not surprising Sunday school, includes the occasional snack, candy rewards and surprise! birthday treats.
How do you impress upon a teenage teacher the importance of a food allergy? so I wrote this letter.
(CHILD'S NAME): Peanut & Orange…

With pre-school changing caregivers and volunteers clearly identify young children with food allergies to keep them well. Contemporary Pediatrics Magazine reviewed ALERT CLOTHING COMPANY in September, "Child Safety- a fashionable way to stop food sharing." Bright, colorful t-shirts, sweatshirts & tote bags with the message of food allergies clearly stated in a cheerful child friendly way (a royal blue elephant shooting stars,"Food Allergy...NO nuts for me!", dancing dinosaurs,"Food Allergy..…

Can someone explain to me why food allergies are so polarizing? (this is a blog post that I wrote for WEGO Health).
I just don't get the anger and hate that is brought toward food allergy kids and their parents?
Any ideas? It's so frustrating and so sad.

My son was diagnosed with a peanut allergy at 14 months old. He had put a piece of PB toast to his mouth and did not want it. He then had hives on his face and his eye was swollen after he rubbed it. That is as far as it went, thank goodness. Since then his SPT was positive, 15/32(not sure what this is) and his Immunocap was 4.18 KU/L.
After feeling like I was given a death sentence for him, I have educated myself on Peanut allergy and am becoming less fearful, not crying everyday and gaining c…

Hello everyone. I have a 2 year old daughter who was just recently diagnosed with the peanut allergy. I guess the signs were "classic". She started with RSV at 3 months old and has been battling some asthma since as well as having bouts of eczema here and there. She has only had one reaction to peanut butter, the very first time she was served it with a reaction with hives and some swelling (thankfully no anaphylaxis!) and was given benadryl and her reaction went away. She was tested a week late…

Hello fellow PFMs: The first federal study on the incidence of food allergies was released. It isn't the most scientific study - more of a ground level, door-to-door interview rather than based on clinical tests, but it shows what I think we all suspected - more kids have food allergic than before. Take a look at the study here:

Or read AOL's summary here:

Hi everyone,
I am from the Annapolis, MD area. My husband and I just found out that our 19 month old daughter has the peanut allergy. So today is the first day in trying to edcate myself about this allergy. I am feeling a bit overwhelmed and at times I do not know where to begin in the researching. My daughter had a gastric reaction to chocolate peanut butter custard. My husband has a rare peanut allergy where he cannot eat raw peanuts but can tolerate processed peanuts. He has never had to worr…

Hello fellow PA moms! I just wanted to take a second and tell you all a little about my daughter and me. We live in Northern California, the little one is currently 19 months old. We discovered her peanut allergy when she was given a thumbnail-sized piece of english muffin with a tiny schmere of peanut butter back in May. She had what I have now learned is a bi-phasic response. We have to be really careful, now, and it's been very trying when attempting to eat out. I've learned a lot about the f…
